The Style
The style of book I offer for custom bindings is called hollow back, a type of binding which gained popularity in England around 1820. It is an extremely strong binding. The sections of pages are sewn to linen tapes which run across the spine and are then inset into the cover boards. The spine leather is not adhered directly to the book spine, but forms a hollow space when the book is opened up, similar to modern hard-bound books. Among the advantages of this technique are structural strength and the ease with which the pages lay open. The end-bands are hand sewn silk.

Choose Book a Size
The sizes I offer are large - 9 x 11 ½ inches and medium - 6 x 8 ½ inches. The large size is preferred by many - it is more substantial and the larger size lends itself to easier writing.

Number of Pages
There are approximately 96 pages per ¼ inch. You can specify the number of pages you want by stating the desired thickness of the text block. For example, a custom Book of Shadows 1 inch thick would contain 224 pages (this is the minimum number of pages for a custom order)

Covering Materials and Styles
There are nearly infinite combinations of choices. Your book can be covered entirely in leather or a combination of a leather spine with cloth or paper on the boards.

Choose an Edge Decoration
The edges can be decorated with gilding, graphite, solid color or spattered (sprinkled )pattern.

To make the book truly yours, I can begin the book at an astrologically appropriate time.

Finding the best to begin your book could be as simple as not starting your binding during a moon void of course or retrograde planetary movements. If you wish a more specific time, you could provide me with your exact time and location of birth, and we could discuss Sun and Moon positions and aspects which are harmonious with your natal chart.

Personalizing with Signs and Sigils
Many of my customers have further personalized their custom Book of Shadows by placing their own symbols or sigils on the covers before the covering material is applied. This is easily done for local customers. For Internet customers, you can still easily place your mark on the book using transfer paper I supply. You would simply place the transfer paper coated side up on a hard surface, cover it with copy paper then draw your sigils and mail it to me. When I place your design on the book and burnish it, the marks you made are transferred.
